Diet 6: Low-Fat Diet
A diet low in fats, especially saturated fats, can seem restrictive, but its benefits for liver health are well-documented. Excessive fat consumption, particularly from processed and fried foods, can lead to fatty liver disease, further complicating the situation for PBC patients.
By adopting a low-fat diet, the liver’s workload decreases substantially. This reduction in dietary fats means the liver doesn’t have to work as hard to process and break down fats, ensuring it doesn’t get overwhelmed.
Moreover, a natural consequence of cutting down on fats is an increased intake of other macronutrients, like proteins and carbohydrates, particularly from whole food sources. This shift can lead to a more balanced, nutrient-rich diet, supporting overall health and liver function. (6)
