Symptom 5: Diarrhea or Constipation
Irregular bowel movements are common in children, but consistent episodes of diarrhea or constipation can hint at underlying gastritis. While these two symptoms seem opposite, they can both originate from the same source of gastric inflammation and imbalance.
Diarrhea in children with gastritis might present as loose, watery stools occurring more frequently than usual. On the other hand, constipation can manifest as infrequent bowel movements with hard, dry stools. Both these conditions can cause significant discomfort, including abdominal cramps, bloating, and general unease.
It’s essential to ensure the child stays hydrated, especially if they’re experiencing diarrhea. Fluid loss can lead to dehydration, making the situation worse. On the other hand, for constipation, increasing fiber intake and ensuring regular physical activity can be beneficial.(5)
