Symptom 2: Persistent Cough
A cough is the body’s natural reflex to clear out irritants from the lungs and airways. However, when this cough lingers and intensifies over time, it’s a cause for concern. For lung mesothelioma patients, a persistent cough isn’t just a minor annoyance. It can signify tumor growth or the presence of fluid, both of which can irritate the lungs.
This isn’t the typical cough associated with a cold or allergies. It’s more relentless and often produces little to no mucus. Additionally, over time, the nature of the cough might change, becoming more painful or producing blood-tinged sputum. Such indicators can be alarming, to say the least.
Importantly, the constant coughing can result in additional health concerns. The consistent strain can lead to soreness in the chest and even fractured ribs in severe cases. Beyond the physical, the perpetual coughing can also impact one’s emotional well-being, leading to feelings of frustration or embarrassment, especially in social situations. (2)
