A decrease in exercise tolerance or the ability to perform physical activities is another early sign of AFIB. If you find that you’re suddenly struggling with exercises that you could previously do with ease, or if you’re getting winded from just a short walk, it could be a symptom of AFIB.

In AFIB, the irregular rhythm of the heart means it can’t pump blood as effectively as it should. This inefficiency can become particularly apparent during exercise when your heart rate and blood pressure naturally increase to meet the increased demand for oxygen and nutrients in your muscles.

You might find that you’re unable to maintain your usual pace or that you have to stop and rest more frequently. This reduced ability to exercise is your body’s way of telling you that something isn’t quite right. Your heart is struggling to keep up with the demands placed on it, and it’s time to seek help.

It’s important to note that a reduction in exercise tolerance can be a sign of various conditions, including heart disease, lung disease, or even simply aging. However, if you notice a significant and sudden decrease in your ability to exercise, particularly if it’s accompanied by other symptoms like palpitations, shortness of breath, or chest pain, it could be a sign of AFIB and should be evaluated by a healthcare provider.
