Improved detection methods play a significant role. With advancements in dermatological technology and heightened awareness, more cases are being identified and reported. This might give the impression of a sudden surge, but it’s often a reflection of better diagnostic capabilities.
The global population’s aging demographic is another contributing factor. As previously mentioned, older individuals are at a higher risk of developing MCC. With an increasing number of people crossing the 50-year mark, the pool of susceptible individuals grows. (8)
