2. Fatigue: The Unseen Energy Drainer
The word ‘fatigue’ does little justice to what PPMS patients undergo. It’s not just about feeling tired; it’s an overwhelming exhaustion that doesn’t get better with rest. On some days, even getting out of bed feels like running a marathon.
Research indicates that around 80% of MS patients experience fatigue, making it one of the most common symptoms. Its exact cause remains unknown, but it’s believed that nerve deterioration plays a significant role.
Fatigue in PPMS also has indirect culprits. Sleep disturbances, either due to muscle spasms, depression, or other MS-related issues, can intensify fatigue.(2)
