2. Body Temperature Changes.
Research is still ongoing to determine the specific role of the thyroid in regulating internal temperature. However, it is a known fact that thyroid hormones trigger processes of heat production in the body and the ability to increase internal temperature in response to external temperature conditions.
The lack of hormones that comes with an under-active thyroid can render the body to be more sensitive to cold temperatures. Overactive thyroid can reduce tolerance to the cold, but in most cases it will cause us to feel hot and sweaty most of the time, even when the surrounding temperature is normal. This is due to elevated levels of thyroid hormones which activate heat generation in the body.
Simply being intolerant to cold or feeling hot all the time is certainly not enough for a doctor to diagnose thyroid issues. But if you experience changes in your body temperature along with other thyroid symptoms, odds are there may be something wrong with the thyroid. [5, 7]
