5. Neck or Throat Changes.
Some thyroid disorders can cause changes in the neck and throat, which can be clearly seen and felt, such as nodules or goiter (enlarged thyroid).
It is advisable to check your neck and throat for signs of:
- Swelling (can also be a sign of more serious conditions like cancer, infection, or neurological disease);
- A “full” feeling in the neck;
- Visible enlargement;
- Ear and jaw pain;
- Discomfort when wearing clothes that are tight around the neck;
- Trouble swallowing or breathing;
- Tenderness;
- Voice hoarseness. [5]
See a doctor if you have an unusual feeling in your neck or throat.
