Since thyroid conditions affect the release of hormones, there might be changes in hair, skin, or nails.
With an underactive thyroid, these changes may include:
- Dry, coarse and brittle hair;
- Loss of hair;
- Thick, dry and scaly skin (especially on the heels, knees, and elbows);
- Brittle and thin nails.
With an overactive thyroid, here are the most common signs:
- Patchy hair loss or thinning;
