6. Fatigue and Lethargy
Fatigue and lethargy often go hand in hand after a concussion. They indicate that the body needs time and energy to recover from the injury. So if you keep feeling drowsy, listless and downright lethargic after a couple of nights of good sleep after a head trauma, it’s most likely that you’re experiencing a concussion. Make sure you see a doctor as soon as possible. [3]
It is recommended to get as much sleep as possible following a concussion. To be able to heal, the damaged brain needs to rest from physical activity and cognitive operations for the first 24 to 48 hours. So please be patient and get plenty of rest.
If you live alone, find someone to accompany you for the first 24 hours following trauma. This is important in case there are any signs of a serious hematoma, such as loss of consciousness, inability to be awakened, or worsening headaches. [4]
