Symptom 3: Regurgitation
Going beyond the occasional burp after a fizzy drink or a large meal, regurgitation due to EMD is a whole different experience. It involves the sensation, or the actual act, of food or liquids making their way back up the esophagus after being swallowed. Think of it as a replay but in reverse, and certainly not as enjoyable.
This isn’t just about discomfort; it’s also about taste and sensation. Having remnants of a meal come back up isn’t pleasant. It can taste sour or bitter, causing further aversion to certain foods or drinks. Over time, this can even lead to a fear of eating certain things, narrowing down one’s dietary choices considerably.
