Symptom 8: Swollen Lymph Nodes
Lymph nodes are an integral part of the body’s immune system, acting as filters that trap viruses and bacteria. With genital herpes, it’s not uncommon for the lymph nodes in the groin area to become swollen and tender to touch. This enlargement is a clear sign of the body’s active defense against the herpes infection.
The swelling of these nodes, termed lymphadenopathy, can vary in severity. Some women might notice a slight enlargement, while for others, the swelling can be significantly pronounced. These swollen nodes can also be tender, causing discomfort when walking or even sitting.
Swollen lymph nodes, while a more subtle symptom of genital herpes, play a pivotal role in the body’s response to the virus. Acknowledging their significance can lead to a more informed approach to managing herpes and its varied manifestations. (8)
