Hair growth is regulated by hormones. Particularly thyroid hormones help control the growth of hair follicles.
Iodine stimulates the thyroid gland, which helps stimulate hair growth and keeps hair strong and healthy. If the level of thyroid hormones decreases, the metabolism of the cells in the body slows down, reducing the amount of energy received by the hair cells to function properly.
Iodine deficiency can also affect eyebrow hair.
Hair loss can be a symptom of many conditions, but if age, medications or hereditary conditions are not a factor, iodine deficiency could be the cause of it.
