Symptom 2: Firm, Non-Tender Mass
Diving deeper into the symptoms of MCC, another manifestation to be wary of is the appearance of a firm, non-tender mass. Unlike the nodules, which are prominently visible on the skin’s surface, these masses can sometimes remain obscured, lurking just below the skin.
Upon touch, these masses feel distinct, almost rigid, setting them apart from regular skin swellings or inflammations. Their steadfast, unmoving nature can often lead to misconceptions, especially since they don’t elicit any tenderness or pain upon pressure. This lack of sensitivity, however, is precisely what can make them deceptive.
Now, while these masses are firm to the touch, they are also characterized by a subtle growth pattern. They may not exhibit the rapid expansion seen in nodules but grow they do, often slowly and steadily. This slow encroachment might seem less alarming but remember, it’s the silent threats that often prove the most challenging to tackle. (2)
