Symptom 6: Fatigue
Fatigue is a word often tossed around after a tiring day or sleepless night. Yet, the exhaustion associated with sarcomatoid carcinoma is a different beast. It’s a profound, relentless tiredness, a kind that doesn’t lift with rest or rejuvenation.
Where does this fatigue originate? The answer, yet again, circles back to the invasive tumor. As it grows, its demands on the body skyrocket. Nutrients, oxygen, and energy – all redirected to sustain this unwanted growth, leaving the rest of the body grappling for its share. It’s like having a leech, draining away vitality day in and day out.
But it’s not just about physical energy. The weariness seeps into the mental realm. Tasks that once felt mundane now seem Herculean. Social interactions turn exhausting. The joys once derived from hobbies or even simple relaxation become elusive. It’s a state of perpetual low energy, where the body and mind constantly seem to run on empty.
Alongside the physical and mental drain, there’s an emotional aspect to this fatigue. The constant tiredness can breed feelings of frustration, sadness, or even anger. There’s a sense of being trapped in one’s body, a longing for the days of energy and enthusiasm. This emotional weight often compounds the overall experience of fatigue, making it even harder to tackle. (6)
