Nasal complications in MMP emerge as a twofold problem: congestion and nosebleeds. Both are indicative of the disorder’s aggressive targeting of the mucous membranes within the nasal passages.

The nose, a critical component of our respiratory system, is lined with delicate mucous membranes. In MMP, these membranes become inflamed, leading to persistent congestion. But it doesn’t end there. The fragile blood vessels can rupture easily, leading to frequent and sometimes severe nosebleeds.

Chronic congestion can drastically alter one’s quality of life. Breathing becomes laborious, with many resorting to mouth breathing, which can lead to further complications like oral dryness and dental issues. The frequent nosebleeds, on the other hand, can be alarming. Apart from the physical discomfort, the sudden onset of a bleed can be socially embarrassing and limit one’s ability to partake in regular activities.

There’s also the emotional aspect to consider. Persistent health issues, even if they might seem minor, can wear one down mentally. The constant need to manage congestion, coupled with the anxiety of potential nosebleeds, can lead to feelings of frustration and helplessness. (6)
