Symptom 3: Mucous Membranes
When DAR manifests, it doesn’t restrict itself to the skin’s surface. Delve deeper, and you’d find its imprints on the mucous membranes as well. Predominantly within the oral cavity, one might discover white patches or a peculiar cobblestone pattern. At first glance, these might seem benign, but delve deeper, and the complexities arise.
While these changes are typically painless, they are not devoid of sensation. The oral cavity becomes a hub of heightened sensitivity. Foods that were once enjoyed without a second thought can now trigger discomfort. Spicy dishes, acidic fruits, or even hot beverages might induce a stinging sensation. (3)
