3. Ocular Disturbances: MALT Lymphoma’s Silent Assault on the Eyes
Our eyes, often dubbed the windows to our souls, are integral to our daily lives. When MALT lymphoma targets the eyes, the resulting symptoms can range from subtle to distressing. A frequent manifestation is prolonged inflammation, manifesting as redness or discomfort in one or both eyes.
Such redness or inflammation might, at first, seem benign. After all, numerous factors from allergies, lack of sleep, to even minor infections can cause our eyes to appear bloodshot. However, when this redness persists and doesn’t respond to the usual treatments – think over-the-counter eye drops – it’s cause for concern.
Another symptom is visual disturbances. Patients may complain of seeing ‘floaters’ – small, shadowy shapes that float across the visual field. (3)
