4. Respiratory Anomalies: The Breathlessness Brought on by MALT Lymphoma
MALT lymphoma, while having a penchant for mucosal tissues, can sometimes venture into the lungs. This involvement can lead to symptoms that easily mimic other respiratory conditions. A persistent cough, for instance, might be mistaken for chronic bronchitis or even an aftermath of a stubborn cold.
But when this cough lingers, devoid of any other cold symptoms, it’s a potential red flag. Moreover, patients might describe a sensation of breathlessness or shortness of breath. This isn’t the kind of breathlessness one feels after a strenuous workout, but rather an inexplicable difficulty in catching one’s breath, even at rest.
Chest discomfort can accompany these respiratory symptoms. A tightness, a dull ache, or even a stabbing pain might manifest. Such sensations, especially when combined with a persistent cough and breathlessness, need to be investigated further.(4)
