Symptom 5: Nausea and Vomiting
Everyone experiences an upset stomach from time to time, but consistent nausea and vomiting could be red flags for liver health concerns. While it’s easy to associate these symptoms with gastrointestinal issues or food poisoning, persistent occurrences might suggest a deeper underlying cause related to liver function.
The liver and digestive system share a close relationship. The liver produces bile, a digestive juice that aids in fat digestion and nutrient absorption in the intestines. A malfunctioning liver can disrupt bile production and secretion, leading to digestive disturbances, and consequently, nausea.
A liver struggling with its detoxifying role can allow toxins to accumulate in the body. These toxins can irritate the stomach lining, leading to a feeling of constant nausea and, in more severe cases, induce vomiting. The body, in its attempt to purge these toxins, might resort to such mechanisms as a defensive response.
Nausea and vomiting, when related to liver issues, often don’t come alone. They might be accompanied by other symptoms like abdominal pain, bloating, or a loss of appetite. Recognizing these as a combined suite of symptoms, rather than isolated events, can provide more context to the root cause. (5)
