Symptom 7: Bleeding Easily
Discovering unexplained bruises or wounds that take longer than usual to stop bleeding can be alarming. This isn’t merely a sign of delicate skin but can indicate a compromised liver struggling with its blood-clotting functions.
Our liver is instrumental in producing proteins required for blood clotting. Among these, clotting factors play a pivotal role in ensuring that we don’t bleed excessively from even minor injuries. A liver that’s not functioning optimally can fall short in producing these vital proteins, leading to increased bleeding tendencies.
It’s not just about the visible signs. Internal bleeding, which isn’t immediately apparent, poses a greater risk. For instance, a person might notice blood in their stools or unusually dark urine, indicating possible internal bleeding, which can be a direct consequence of reduced clotting factors.
Vitamin K is vital for the production of certain clotting factors. The liver helps to metabolize and store this vitamin. So, when liver function declines, even if there’s ample vitamin K intake, the body might not utilize it effectively, further affecting the blood clotting process. (7)
