The liver plays a crucial role in breaking down hemoglobin from old red blood cells, producing a chemical called bilirubin. Typically, the liver processes bilirubin, which is then eliminated through urine, giving it its usual yellow tint. However, a malfunctioning liver can lead to an excess bilirubin release into the urine, darkening its color.
Dark urine, when related to liver issues, might be accompanied by other symptoms, like yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice). Together, these symptoms can provide a clearer picture of potential liver damage or disease.
