Disease 7. Warts: The Stubborn Growths
Warts are small, rough, and often unsightly growths caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). They can appear anywhere on the body but are most commonly found on the hands and feet. Warts are contagious and can spread through direct contact or by touching surfaces contaminated with the virus.
There are several types of warts, including common warts, plantar warts, flat warts, and filiform warts, each with a unique appearance and location on the body. Most warts are harmless and will eventually disappear on their own, but they can be bothersome and cause discomfort or embarrassment.
Treatment options for warts include over-the-counter salicylic acid products, cryotherapy (freezing), or surgical removal by a healthcare provider. It’s crucial to avoid picking or scratching warts, as this can spread the virus to other parts of the body or to other people. (7)
