8. Bone Deformities: The Silent Reshaping
As muscles weaken and atrophy, they no longer provide adequate support to bones. This lack of support, combined with reduced mobility, can lead to bone deformities. Curvature of the spine or other skeletal abnormalities might become evident.
Orthopedic consultations become pivotal. Braces, physiotherapy, and in some severe cases, surgical interventions, might be considered to provide relief and support.
The structural changes aren’t merely cosmetic. Bone deformities can be associated with significant pain and discomfort. Pain management, therefore, becomes a cornerstone of care, requiring both pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches to ensure the child’s comfort. (8)
