While burping is a natural bodily function, an increase in frequency can be a sign of PUD. This might be accompanied by other symptoms, making it an important clue in the diagnostic puzzle.
Excessive burping can arise from swallowed air or as a result of the stomach’s altered function due to the ulcer. It can also indicate the presence of increased gas in the stomach.
Carbonated beverages, eating too quickly, or even stress can contribute to increased swallowing of air, leading to more frequent burping. Additionally, certain foods can cause increased gas production.(14)
