Waking up to swollen eyelids can be a startling experience. With angioedema, this swelling can be rapid, leading to partially or fully closed eyes. It can be accompanied by redness, itchiness, and a sense of heaviness.

Beyond mere cosmetic concern, swollen eyelids can be quite uncomfortable. They can cause a blurred vision, especially if the swelling is severe enough to push against the eyeball, altering its shape temporarily.

Just like other symptoms, the swelling is due to fluid build-up. This fluid accumulates in response to certain triggers, with the skin around the eyes being thin and susceptible to rapid swelling.

Cold compresses can help reduce swelling and provide relief from itchiness. However, as with all symptoms of angioedema, it’s vital to understand and address the root cause. If the swelling doesn’t subside or is recurrent, medical advice should be sought. (8)
