Symptom 8. Burning Sensation: The Uncomfortable Heat of Pink Eye
A burning sensation in the eye is another common symptom of Conjunctivitis. This discomfort can range from mild to severe and is often accompanied by itchiness, irritation, and redness.
The burning sensation can be caused by the inflammation and irritation of the conjunctiva, as well as the presence of discharge or foreign particles in the eye. In some cases, the burning may be more pronounced upon waking or when the eyes are exposed to irritants, such as smoke or dust.
To help alleviate the burning sensation, try applying a cold or warm compress to the affected eye(s). Over-the-counter artificial tears can also provide relief by lubricating the eye and flushing out irritants. Avoid rubbing your eyes, as this can worsen the burning and increase the risk of spreading the infection.
If the burning sensation persists or intensifies, it is essential to consult an eye care professional for further evaluation and appropriate treatment options. (6)
