Uveitis is the inflammation of the uvea, the middle layer of the eye that includes the iris, ciliary body, and choroid. This condition can cause redness, pain, blurred vision, and sensitivity to light. If left untreated, uveitis can lead to complications like glaucoma, cataracts, and retinal detachment, potentially resulting in vision loss.
Uveitis can be caused by various factors, including autoimmune disorders, infections, eye injuries, or exposure to toxins. Treatment for uveitis depends on the underlying cause and may include anti-inflammatory medications, steroid eye drops, immunosuppressive drugs, or antibiotics.
