There is no preventive treatment to avoid the formation of an aneurysm. The reason being that it is a lesion whose occurrence is strongly linked to congenital and sometimes hereditary factors.
Therefore, prevention focuses on following the usual measures to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and other risk factors:
- Avoid smoking and excess alcohol: smoking is a risk factor for both aortic aneurysms and the rupture of an aneurysm anywhere in the body.
- Regularly monitor your blood pressure, and if you have been treated for high blood pressure, keep up with your treatment.
- Reduce salt in meals.
- Regular physical activity.
- A healthy diet: it can also reduce cholesterol and decrease the risk of atherosclerosis.
- Watch your weight: obesity can put extra pressure on the heart.
- Potassium supplements.
- Avoid stressful situations as much as possible.
