Aneurysm – Sign and Symptoms, Treatment, Prevention

Types of surgery may include:

Microvascular clipping: consists of placing a small clip at the aneurysm. This stops blood from flowing into it and gradually reduces its size.

Endovascular treatment is a less invasive procedure that involves inserting a thin catheter into a large artery, usually in the groin, and then inserting a platinum wire to guide it to the aneurysm. Once inside the aneurysm, the probe delivers small platinum springs called coils that coil around themselves to completely block the aneurysm and isolate it from the bloodstream.

Endovascular surgery is generally preferred to traditional surgery, particularly because the operating time and hospital stay are shorter.

Open surgery: in some cases, a surgeon may perform the graft or remove the aneurysm through an incision (open surgery).

When an aortic aneurysm is diagnosed, treatment most often consists of removing the aneurysm and implanting a prosthetic aorta, either by conventional surgery or by passing a catheter through an artery to the place of the aneurysm.
