Symptom 3: Pale Skin
Pale skin is a common symptom of aplastic anemia, resulting from the shortage of red blood cells. With fewer red blood cells circulating through your body, your skin may appear pale, as the blood vessels near the surface become less visible.
The pallor caused by aplastic anemia can affect various areas of the body, including the face, hands, and mucous membranes, such as the gums and the inside of the eyelids. This paleness can be more noticeable in individuals with naturally fair skin, but it can also be observed in those with darker complexions.
Aside from the skin, the reduced red blood cell count can also cause the nail beds to appear pale, which can be an additional sign of aplastic anemia. If you notice a sudden change in your skin or nail color, it’s essential to seek medical advice, as this could be indicative of an underlying blood disorder.
