Sign 3: Memory Maze: Trouble with Recollection
While memory issues are often linked to Alzheimer’s disease, they can also be an early sign of FTD. Unlike Alzheimer’s, where memory loss is usually severe, in FTD, it’s typically less pronounced. However, the impact can still be considerable, affecting the person’s daily life.
The initial memory problems might seem innocuous. Forgetfulness about recent events or repeatedly asking the same questions could be chalked up to stress or aging. But as time passes, the frequency and severity of memory lapses increase.
An individual might start misplacing everyday items, like car keys or glasses, with an increasing frequency. They might also start forgetting familiar routes, leading to episodes of disorientation even in well-known areas. (3)
