At the diagnostic level, technology has significantly improved the precision and accessibility of tools such as electroencephalograms (EEGs). High-density EEGs, for instance, can capture brain activity with increased detail, leading to better localization of seizure origins. Similarly, advancements in genetic testing technologies have enabled comprehensive and efficient sequencing of genes associated with myoclonic epilepsy, leading to more precise diagnoses.
In terms of treatment, devices such as responsive neurostimulation systems (RNS) represent a leap forward. These systems monitor brain activity and deliver a responsive electrical stimulation to stop a seizure before it starts.
