Symptom 9: Dizziness and Balance Problems – The Unsteady Terrain
Dizziness and balance issues are common symptoms of RRMS. They can present as a feeling of unsteadiness, lightheadedness, or the sensation that the room is spinning. For some, it’s a mild nuisance, but for others, it can significantly impact their ability to move about safely and confidently.
Dizziness can be constant or episodic and may be accompanied by nausea. Balance issues can result in clumsiness, difficulty walking, or problems with coordination. Some individuals may even experience falls due to these symptoms.
These symptoms can limit mobility and independence and may lead to fear of moving about freely. They can affect all aspects of daily life, from self-care activities to more complex tasks like driving.
Balance training exercises, such as yoga or tai chi, can help improve stability and decrease the risk of falls. In some cases, medications may be used to alleviate dizziness. (9)
