Symptoms.
The signs of CO poisoning are not specific and are often difficult to recognize, because they resemble the symptoms of other health problems, such as the flu, gastroenteritis or other benign diseases. However, being aware of them can save your life. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.
These symptoms tend to appear quickly:
- Fatigue;
- Vomiting;
- Nausea;
- Shortness of breath and difficulty breathing;
- Headaches and dizziness;
- Confusion;
- Problems with vision, smell and attention;
- Chest pain, muscle pain and abdominal pain.
In extremely severe cases, the victim can lose consciousness and fall into a coma or even die within minutes of exposure.
Additional signs that point to CO poisoning:
- Several people who are in the same space are experiencing the same symptoms;
- There is a source of carbon monoxide in the space;
- The symptoms lessen or disappear when people leave the area.
