What To Do.
Serious poisoning can lead to a coma and death, sometimes within minutes. It is therefore necessary to act very quickly. In case of suspected intoxication:
- Immediately ventilate the area by opening doors and windows;
- Switch off combustion appliances (if possible);
- Evacuate the area;
- Stay calm and avoid raising your heart rate;
- Call emergency services to report the incident;
- Do not return to the property until you have received advice from the proper services;
- Seek immediate medical help – you may not realize that you have been affected by carbon monoxide, and going outside into fresh air will not treat any exposure by itself;
- Do not use the combustion appliances until they have been checked.
