What are the Symptoms?
It takes some time after exposure to the bacteria to actually start feeling sick. This time between exposure and the development of symptoms is called the incubation period. With strep throat, the incubation period is normally 2 to 5 days, and the person is already contagious. [4]
Strep throat has a number of classic signs and symptoms, such as a sore throat, enlarged tonsils, fever, chills, headaches, and decreased appetite. However, all of these can also occur in viral infections, so you can’t diagnose strep throat using symptoms alone. If you have these symptoms, your GP will determine if you need strep testing. It is important to know when to seek medical attention, so be sure to learn about the symptoms of strep throat below. [4]
Some symptoms are more common, others are rare.
