Cause 3: Abdominal Trauma
Though not the most common cause, direct abdominal trauma cannot be ignored in the appendicitis conversation. A strong blow to the abdomen, whether from a fall, accident, or otherwise, can cause internal injuries. While the immediate aftermath might involve pain, bruising, or discomfort, internal implications can sometimes arise.
The direct trauma can lead to inflammation within the abdominal region. This inflammation can spread, encompassing various organs, including the appendix. When the appendix gets inflamed due to this, it can lead to appendicitis, with all its associated symptoms.
Additionally, trauma can cause internal bleeding or the release of substances that can block the appendiceal lumen. This blockage, as previously discussed, can then become a breeding ground for bacteria, leading to further complications. (3)
