MEN1, in particular, is associated with tumors in the duodenum and pancreas. These tumors can lead to an excess production of gastrin, a hormone that stimulates the production of stomach acid. The excess acid can cause ulcers in the stomach and small intestine, leading to pain, bleeding, and other complications.
On the other hand, non-functional tumors in these areas may not produce excess hormones but can grow large enough to cause blockages or impede the normal functioning of the digestive system.
