Swollen lymph nodes, especially in the neck, might be a covert sign of stage 3 thyroid cancer. Serving as the body’s defense mechanism, lymph nodes are small, bean-shaped structures that produce and store cells designed to fight off diseases and infections. Yet, when dealing with thyroid cancer, these silent guardians themselves become the victims.
Understanding this symptom starts with a journey through the body’s immune system. Imagine lymph nodes as watchtowers situated in strategic locations, always on the lookout for foreign invaders. They are primarily responsible for filtering the lymphatic fluid and detecting any unusual invaders, such as bacteria, viruses, and in our case, cancer cells.
