Symptom 8. Ear Infections: A Complication of ETD
Eustachian Tube Dysfunction can set the stage for recurrent ear infections – a painful complication that can further compromise your ear health. The Eustachian tube’s malfunction prevents adequate ventilation of the middle ear. And in these conditions, the middle ear becomes more prone to the accumulation of fluid, which creates an ideal environment for the growth of bacteria or viruses.
Ear infections, known as otitis media, can manifest with several symptoms, including severe ear pain, a discharge from the ear, and temporary hearing loss. In some cases, you might also experience general symptoms like fever and fatigue.
These infections can be quite uncomfortable and can add to the ear pain and pressure you’re already experiencing due to ETD. If left untreated, these infections can lead to more serious complications, such as a perforated eardrum or even hearing loss.
Recurrent ear infections could be more than just a result of exposure to harmful microbes; they might be a complication of Eustachian Tube Dysfunction. Rather than brushing them off as ordinary infections, understand them as a sign that your Eustachian tube might need attention and care. (8)
