An unexplained fever often appears as a side character in the theater of medical symptoms, usually associated with infections or the flu. However, when correlated with IPMN, it might actually be hinting at an entirely different story.
The science behind this is fascinating. A localized infection or inflammation around the pancreas could produce fever-like symptoms. Your immune system kicks into high gear, raising your body’s thermostat. The irony is that your body’s defense mechanisms are working perfectly, responding to an internal issue they can’t possibly resolve on their own.
Fevers related to IPMN often defy the traditional “curve” we associate with fevers from infectious diseases. They can be erratic, spiking at random times during the day or night. Sometimes, they don’t even come with the associated feelings of malaise that often accompany a fever.
