Basic Rules of Prevention.
There are simple preventive measures that help avoid food poisoning:
- Carefully examining the food before consuming it.
- Thoroughly washing your hands before and after handling food.
- In case of injury, covering wounds with a bandage and using single use gloves before handling food.
- Proper storage.
- Cool, reheat and defrost food properly.
- Carefully sort out food that has been left in the fridge and freezer after a power cut.
- Paying attention to expiration dates.
- Avoiding raw food (especially meat and fish).
- Choosing cooked foods and medium rare meats.
- Not drinking non-potable water (or water of uncertain potability) and avoiding drinking tap water when traveling abroad before ensuring that the water is safe to drink.
- Avoid eating mushrooms or other plants picked during a walk.
- Wash and disinfect raw vegetables thoroughly with vinegar.
