Precautions After the Procedure
Even though the procedure is quite simple and does not require a long recovery process, it is best to stick to these guidelines to ensure safety. These largely depend on the specific situation and will be made clear by the doctor.
- Refrain from intense exercise for 48 hours;
- No lifting of heavy objects during the first few days;
- It is necessary to leave the pressure bandage in place until the next morning;
- Showering instead of bathing for 2-3 days;
- A plaster is placed under the bandage; it should be left it on for another day;
- No driving is allowed, the patient should always be accompanied;
- It is best not to be alone at home for at least 24 hours after the examination;
- Keep puncture sites dry and clean. If the dressings become soiled or wet, remove them and wash the skin with soap and water. Let the sites air dry and replace with a clean adhesive bandage;
- The doctor should be informed if the temperature rises above 38°, swelling and redness appears at the puncture site, or there is numbness, pain or cooling of the punctured limb;
- In the event of bleeding at the puncture site, immediately apply pressure (using two fingers) to the site of the bleeding for a period of 10 minutes. If heavy bleeding persists despite this, call emergency services.
