Sign 10: Persistent Cough or Wheezing
Last on this list, but certainly not least, is a persistent cough or wheezing. A cough in itself is not typically seen as a major concern. Most of us will brush it off as a residual cold symptom or an irritant. However, a persistent cough that produces white or pink blood-tinged mucus can be a sign of cardiomyopathy.
The reason behind this is that as the heart struggles to cope with the demands of the body due to cardiomyopathy, fluid can build up in the lungs. This can cause a lingering cough or wheezing that doesn’t seem to go away.
As with other symptoms on this list, a persistent cough or wheezing can be a sign of many other conditions, including common illnesses like bronchitis or asthma. However, if you’re experiencing a lingering cough or wheezing along with other symptoms like fatigue or swelling, it’s important to seek medical advice. (9)
