Sign 4: Dizziness and Fainting
Ever felt the room spinning around you for no apparent reason? Or maybe you’ve fainted, only to wake up confused and disoriented? Dizziness and fainting are another pair of symptoms that might indicate the onset of cardiomyopathy.
At first, you might feel a bit dizzy when standing up too fast or when you’re particularly tired. It might be easy to brush off this symptom as nothing more than fatigue or a sign you’re coming down with something. However, with cardiomyopathy, these dizzy spells can increase in frequency and severity, even leading to fainting in some cases.
These symptoms arise from the heart’s inability to pump enough blood to the brain. When the brain doesn’t get enough oxygen-rich blood, you might feel lightheaded or even lose consciousness. Importantly, dizziness and fainting are not symptoms to be taken lightly, as they can be dangerous.
For instance, fainting spells can lead to injuries, and they could be a sign that the heart isn’t maintaining its rhythm. If you’re experiencing frequent dizziness or have fainted, it’s essential to get checked out. Although these symptoms could be a result of various conditions, cardiomyopathy is one possibility that should be ruled out. (4)
