Symptom 7: Palpitations
Moving on, palpitations or an irregular heartbeat is another symptom that could suggest angina pectoris. Heart palpitations involve feelings of having a rapid, fluttering, or pounding heart. It’s as if your heart is doing somersaults in your chest, a sensation that can be both unnerving and disconcerting.
This irregular heartbeat is a result of the heart struggling to pump effectively due to reduced blood flow. When the heart can’t get enough oxygen, it tries to compensate by beating faster or in an irregular pattern. This erratic performance then results in the feeling of palpitations.
Again, palpitations can be a symptom of several different health conditions, including anxiety, dehydration, or certain medications. However, if palpitations coincide with other angina pectoris symptoms such as chest discomfort or shortness of breath, it’s advisable to seek medical attention without delay. (7)
