Symptom 8: Indigestion or Heartburn
Interestingly, angina pectoris can also cause symptoms that mimic indigestion or heartburn. A person might feel a burning sensation in their stomach, experience bloating, or even belching. These signs, while common in gastrointestinal conditions, can also be a manifestation of angina pectoris.
The overlap between angina pectoris and gastrointestinal symptoms can often lead to confusion. A burning sensation in the chest region could be misinterpreted as heartburn when it could potentially be a sign of reduced blood flow to the heart.
However, if the heartburn or indigestion is accompanied by other symptoms indicative of angina pectoris—such as chest discomfort or shortness of breath—medical intervention should be sought. Recognizing this crossover of symptoms can be crucial for timely and effective treatment. (8)
