Symptom 12: Severe Headache
Severe headache with no known cause can be another symptom of an AFIB stroke. It’s not the typical headache that one may experience due to tension or sinus issues. This headache is often described as the “worst headache of your life”, an abrupt, severe headache unlike anything you’ve experienced before.
This type of headache arises when an AFIB stroke disrupts the regular flow of blood in the brain. This disruption can lead to a sudden increase in blood pressure within the brain, leading to a severe headache. It’s not a symptom to be taken lightly and demands immediate medical attention.
This symptom can often be accompanied by other signs like dizziness, loss of balance, or trouble with vision. It’s critical to look for these accompanying signs because together, they paint a more comprehensive picture of a potential AFIB stroke.
However, recognizing this symptom can be challenging. After all, headaches can occur for numerous reasons – from dehydration to a sleepless night. But an AFIB-related headache stands apart due to its abrupt onset and severe intensity. It’s not your everyday headache.
If you or a loved one experience a sudden, severe headache, particularly if it’s associated with other symptoms mentioned in this article, do not hesitate to seek immediate medical help. Remember, time is of the essence in managing an AFIB stroke, and a severe headache can be a telltale sign of a significant event requiring immediate intervention. (11)
