Symptom 14. Abdominal Swelling: A Troubling Indicator
Abdominal swelling or bloating can be another troubling indicator of heart failure. Fluid buildup or retention, known as ascites, can cause your abdomen to swell and is often accompanied by a feeling of fullness, discomfort, or even pain.
When heart failure progresses, the blood flow from the heart slows down. The pressure in your veins then increases, causing fluid to build up in your body, which might result in swelling of the abdomen.
Abdominal swelling associated with heart failure can also lead to a loss of appetite or nausea. It’s crucial not to overlook these signs, as they can often be misdiagnosed as digestive issues or other less severe conditions. (14)
